The master plan for tourism development emphasises the strengthening of linkages between elements of culture and the tourism industry. Renaissance districts, such as St. James, will be developed to highlight, preserve or enhance the value for the community and visitors alike. This project is being approached as a series of pilot projects within the context of a master plan. The intention of the pilot projects is to enhance and strengthen the existing fabric. In the first phases, this is to be achieved by judicious intervention in public spaces, such as this key square along the Western Main Road. In 2005, this project won an Abel/ Bestcrete Architectural Design & Excellence Award for Best Civic/Community Project Design.
