This analysis of Independence Square, as it moves through the city on an east-west axis, proposes appropriate uses and strategies that include fountains, sculptures, pedestrian routes, vehicular routes, parking and landscaping. The scheme, as designed, was regrettably not built, but remains a fine piece of urban design that was a forerunner of the work that was eventually carried out by others.
